On Tuesday, March 26 at 3pm Pacific/6pm Eastern, another “Snapshot Chat” will be offered on Zoom. This time, the topic is English Sparkling Wine and yes, we’re going to get fizzy with it! Joining me will be Oliver Walkey, journalist, author and co-founder of A Glass of Bubbly, an extremely well-regarded site about all things sparkling. Oliver is based in London so he has “boots on the ground” and knows what he’s talking about! I look forward to having you meet him on Tuesday, March 26.
We’ll spend about 30-40 minutes covering the history of sparkling wine in England, where in the country this newest darling of the bubbly world is produced, sustainability efforts in the vineyard, the process of production, what English sparkling wine tastes like and of course, foods for pairing. We’ll address wine tourism in England (let’s go!) and offer a few suggestions for English bubbles that we can find in the United States.
Afterwards, there will be time for questions, so start making your list. Obviously, this is a broad overview (i.e. snapshot) of English sparkling wine but we may get a bit geeky – there will be something for everyone. I hope that what we explore and discover on March 26 will pique your interest to find a bottle of this special wine and learn even more.
Please register with Eventbrite at the link below. The cost is a reasonable $35.
NOTE: Those of you who have purchased the online course “Discover the Essentials of Wine (and choose it like a pro!)” have already received your coupon code via email for complimentary access to this and all other snapshot chats. Did you know that interest in English sparkling wine has increased as climate change impacts the Champagne region of France? That the famous Champagne house Taittinger purchased a vineyard in Kent in December 2015 to produce sparkling wine? That in several blind tasting competitions, English bubbles beat out French Champagne? That there are 135 wineries in England producing bubbly? That as of 2014, the University of Brighton began offering a Master of Science in Viticulture and Enology degree as a response to the expansion of England’s wine industry? Join the Snapshot Chat on March 26 at 3pm Pacific/6pm Eastern for more about Englsh sparkling wine!
Cheers! ~ Cindy
