Bright, bubbly and flavorful, sparkling wine pairs with foods from appetizers to dessert, with friends by the pool and with family at a picnic in the park. But what to pour? The Crush On This team on YouTube has discovered (via intense research, of course) various Italian sparkling wines that are as unique as the regions from which they originate.

Italian bubbles are made in many regions in Italy. In this episode of Crush On This, Allison, Cindy and Christine explore Prosecco from the Veneto, Franciacorta from Lombardy, and Trentodoc from Trento Alto Adige.

 

When you think of Italian sparkling wine, do you think of red sparkling wine? We do! We love Lambrusco! Truth be told, we’ve come a long way from the old days of sweet sparkling wine style of Lambrusco, the sparkling wine from Emilia- Romagna in Italy, that many of us drank at football tailgate parties. Now, producers are offering high quality Lambrusco that’s wallet-friendly, delicious with so many foods, and incredibly fun to drink.

 

Did you know that there are three styles of wine from the Moscato Bianco grape cultivated in the Asti region in Piemonte? Each style has unique characteristics that make them exceptional sipped on their own, in a cocktail and with food.

 

We often talk about Italian sparkling wines which can offer quality and value. And today, if you ask what sparkling wine to drink, we will tell you those from Berlucchi. Not only were they the first to bottle a Franciacorta in 1961 but they are the Gambero Rosso Vini d’Italia 2022 Winery of the Year. Many of us crave a glass of Champagne… for any reason! But there are sparkling wines beyond Champagne that are made in the same way and are much less costly. At different times, Allison and I have traveled to northern Italy, epicenter of Italian sparkling wine production, where we sipped and savored wines that were made in the traditional method, like Champagne.
