Writer’s block? I have a not-so-surprising solution: a glass or two of wine. Whether you’re writing an entertaining blog post, a gracious thank you note, a pithy note to your mother in law, lyrics to that song you wrote, or the next Great American Novel, sips of our favorite beverage are just what you need to make those words flow. Go ahead…sip, write, repeat.
The wines I’ve tasted and reviewed below were selected because of their value. Each is at a more than reasonable cost and presents a palate profile that is not only delicious but food friendly. It’s time to pull out the stationery, open some wine, and be inspired for plenty of reasons, not the least of which is the QPR.
Casillero del Diablo Chardonnay Reserva 2015 (sample) – It’s impossible to drink a fresh, satisfying Chardonnay (and actually enjoy it) at a price point less than this. I immediately noted aromas of juicy green apple, plenty of citrus, and a hint of lemon wafting from the glass. My taste buds appreciated the bright acidity, touch of minerality, more citrus and green apple flavors, and a smooth finish. Pair this quaffable Chardonnay from Chile with your creativity. Cost is around $10.
Sterling Sauvignon Blanc 2014 (
sample) – Sterling Vineyards has inspired me once again. Aromas of juicy lemons, limes, and freshly mowed grass tickled my nose. On the palate, notes of tropical fruit (pineapple and lime), melon, and lip smacking acidity reigned in this easy drinking wine. You’ll be motivated to write when you have plenty of refills of this wonderful Sauvignon Blanc. Cost is $15.
Bolla Sparkling Rosé (
sample) – It’s a rosé AND sparkling wine…double happiness! You’ll be inspired to write anything with just one look at your glass of bubbles that beg to be savored. This sparkling rosé from the Veneto region of Italy, boasted persistent mousse from my first sip to the last. Bright red fruit aromas and tastes led to a zesty finish which I loved. Pair the Bolla Sparkling Rosé with a breakfast quiche, luncheon salad, grilled salmon at supper, and your laptop, of course. Cost is $13.
Chianti Classico Banfi DOCG 2014 (
sample) – Who doesn’t love a delicious Chianti from Tuscany? Open the bottle for fifteen minutes before tasting to unleash aromas of lavender, vanilla, and herbs. Balanced, with medium acidity, integrated tannins, and flavors of dark plums, tart cherries, and touch of spice, you’ll want to complement this Chianti Classico with pasta, pizza, a panini, and your pen. Cost is $15.
RR Extremely Rare Black Blend 2012 (
sample) – Big and bold, the Black Blend is of Zinfandel from old vine Lodi vineyards and Petite Sirah and Syrah from low yield vineyards in Lake County and Amador County, all in California. Rich, red fruit aromas with notes of vanilla burst from my glass. On the palate, I noted flavors of black cherries, dark plums, hint of wood, and sweet spice, all lifted with brilliant acidity and softened with moderate tannins. I couldn’t resist having bites of dark chocolate with the Rare Black Blend, a flavorful combination you’ll find as thought provoking as I did. Cost is $10.
Cheers~ Cindy
