It’s almost Friday and you are already thinking about your weekend plans and perhaps which wines to purchase. Weekly, I post two recommendations, one white and one red, for your weekend wine choices which are usually under $20. On Saturday and Sunday I’ll be preparing for family members to arrive for the Thanksgiving festivities and I can’t wait to see them all! The table will be set, my shopping list will be finalized, and each guest room will be warm and welcoming (at least I hope they see it that way!). Although the days ahead will be busy, there is always time for wine! And when it’s affordable, the wine is even more enticing!
The two wines profiled are from Spain and Italy and were sent to me as samples. I feel that they will be perfect to jump start the pre-Thanksgiving weekend and hope that you do, too~
*Rocca Sveva Soave Classico 2012 – Sipping this white wine while setting the Thanksgiving table may be a choice you’ll make! Just be sure to double check your work if you have too much!! Soave is from 100% Garganega grapes and this particular wine was so aromatic it was difficult to stop swirling (well, almost!). Floral notes as well as peaches and pears were prevalent on the nose. On the palate, I enjoyed this dry, crisp, high acid wine which displayed more peaches and pears. With a delicious finish of a touch of almonds, you’ll need to finish setting that table and serve some appetizers with what’s left in the bottle! Cost is approximately $17.
*Bodegas Bilbainas Vina Zaco 2010 – The winery, Bodegas Bilbainas, is the largest vineyard in the Rioja Alta region and the largest to have all of its vineyards in the tiny area of Haro. In 2009, Wine Spectator named Vina Zaco as one their top 100 wines of the year. The 2010 vintage may be equally as delicious to you! With distinct aromas of black cherries and wildflowers, the tastes were of gentle spices, red fruits, vanilla, plum and a hint of earth. We loved the full body of this 100% Tempranillo as well as the well integrated tannins and smooth finish. And at a fantastic price of $15, this is just what you need for the weekend!
Cheers! ~ Cindy
