It’s Wednesday and you are already thinking about your weekend plans and perhaps which wines to purchase.  On most Wednesdays, I post two recommendations for your weekend wine choices.  My occasional “Wine and Dine” articles suggest a recipe with wine pairings, but others (like this!) offer choices under $20 – one white and one red.  On Friday evening,  May 10, I attended Bottlenotes’ Around the World in 80 Sips wine tasting event at the stunning Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago where delicious and affordable wines were offered.  I’ll be profiling a few of my favorites in this weekly article for the next four weeks with the first wines in the series from Austria and South Africa!

**Domaine Wachau Riesling 2011 – If you have never tasted a Riesling from Austria, this is the one for you!  Grapes from a variety of steep terraced vineyards in the Wachau, Austria’s wine growing region, were blended for this dry, medium bodied keeper.  Aromas of apricots, touch of spice and grapefruit, led to tastes of the same and more snappy fruit.  The high acidity and structure of the Riesling will be perfect with fish, soups, vegetables, and perhaps some prosciutto!  Cost is $19.00.

**House of Mandela Thembu Collection Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 – Have you wanted to travel to South Africa?  You can enjoy the culture with a glass (or two!) of this terrific Cabernet Sauvignon.  Incredibly smooth with aromas and tastes of dark berries, smoke, and chocolate I loved sipping this well balanced wine while hearing the stories of Nelson Mandela’s family.  Explore South Africa at a realistic price of $14.99.

I’ll suggest more wines from Around the World in 80 Sips next Wednesday!

Cheers! ~ Cindy
