It’s Wednesday and you are already thinking about your weekend plans and perhaps which wines to purchase. On most Wednesdays, I post two recommendations for your weekend wine choices. My occasional “Wine and Dine” articles suggest a recipe with wine pairings, but others (like this!) offer choices under $20 – one white and one red. On Friday evening, May 10, I attended Bottlenotes’ Around the World in 80 Sips wine tasting event at the stunning Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. Many delicious wines from a variety of countries and with affordable prices were offered. I’ll be profiling a few of my favorites in this weekly article which began last week. The second wines in the series are from Moldova and Italy!
**Cimislia Sauvignon Blanc 2011 – Cimislia Wineries, established in 1994, is the leading producer and exporter of Moldavian wines. Four wineries in the south of Moldova are owned by Cimislia. This particular Sauvignon Blanc was dry and crisp with aromas and tastes of white stone fruits including apricots. Very refreshing, this will be delicious with appetizers on your porch while you look at your map to discover where Moldova really is! The cost is a mere $7.99.
**Banfi Tuscany Chianti Classico Riserva 2009 – Located between Florence and Sienna, the Chianti Classico zone is well known for its food friendly wines and delicious tastes. This wine consisting of a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Canaiolo, and Sangiovese grapes showed rich aromas of cherries, plums, and spring flowers. Tastes included more deep cherries and with a balance of acidity, tannins, fruit, and alcohol, this well priced Chianti will pair perfectly with pasta dishes and a good friend. Cost is $17.00.
I’ll suggest more affordable wines from Around the World in 80 Sips next Wednesday!
Cheers! ~ Cindy
