It’s Wednesday and you are already thinking about your weekend plans and perhaps which wines to purchase. On most Wednesdays, I post two recommendations for your weekend wine choices. My occasional “Wine and Dine” articles suggest a recipe with wine pairings, but others (like this!) offer choices under $20 – one white and one red. Your taxes may (or may not) have been filed and you need to stop looking at numbers, ways to claim more deductions, or worry about an IRS audit. How about tasting these wines from Healdsburg, California?
**2012 Dry Creek Vineyard Chenin Blanc – Crisp and tart with high acidity, this wine of 100% Chenin Blanc was perfect to cleanse my palate after a plethora of red wines tasted during my day in Healdsburg. Aged in stainless steel tanks, the stone fruit aromas and tastes had a touch of minerality (which I love) as well. You’ll enjoy this wine’s food friendly elements as well as the price tag of $12.00. And if you find yourself in Healdsburg, make your way to Lambert Bridge Road for a tasting at the winery!
**2011 Murphy-Goode Pinot Noir – Ahhh, the black cherry flavors with some dried sage and pepper (thanks to the splash of Syrah) were right there in the glass! Aged in French and American oak, there was enough vanilla to make this wine smooth and lovely. Enjoyed at the tasting room just off the town square in Healdsburg, you don’t have to make the trip (although you really should!) because this is readily available wherever you are for $15.00!
Cheers to the weekend! ~ Cindy
