It’s Wednesday and you are already thinking about your weekend plans and perhaps which wines to purchase. Each Wednesday, I post two recommendations for your weekend wine choices which are under $20.00 – one white and one red. This week I continue to offer suggestions which are samples sent to me and are new releases from the estates of one of my favorites, Casa Vinicola Zonin. But I’m switching it up this time…their Moscato and Prosecco are profiled!
**Moscato d’Asti – OK, Moscato fans, this one is for you! But of course if you think a Moscato is too sweet, you need to try this selection produced and estate bottled by Castello del Poggio in the Piemonte region of Italy and one of the Zonin estates. Showing colors of pale gold and aromas of peach (and did I really identify honey?) I loved the gentle bubbles that rose to the top. Yes, it has the sweet taste which is typical, but it was not overly so. This Moscato was well balanced with fruit forward tastes and a lingering finish. And just in case you didn’t already know…Zonin’s Moscato is the #1 selling Moscato in America and if you frequent the Olive Garden you’ll find this brand on the menu! Enjoy this with anything…especially your friends! Cost is around $10.00.
**Prosecco DOC – I don’t know about you but I’m a true Prosecco lover and this brand delivers. Produced from 100% Glera grapes, this sparkler from Zonin is bright straw in color and has intense aromas of fruit and white flowers. The Glera grape has a distinct almond-like flavor and a sip of this Prosecco reflects its unique qualities. Balanced and delicious, I would enjoy this as an aperitif when your guests arrive, during the meal, and/or with a lovely dessert! Several of us enjoyed this Prosecco before dinner and it set the stage for a sparkling evening! Cost is in the $10.00 range and is a fantastic value!
I will be visiting Casa Vinicola Zonin’s Barboursville Winery in Charlottesville, Virginia soon and look forward to sharing their story of family and wonderful wine with you!
